Tungnath peacefully adorned on the Chandranath Parvat is the highest Shiva temple in the world and the highest Panch Kedar temple of Uttarakhand.
It is the third (Tritiya Kedar) in the pecking order of the Panch Kedars. Tungnath is perched at an elevation of 3, 680 metres above sea level and is considered to be more than 1,000 years old.
मंदिर के निर्माण के बारे में जानकारी मिलती है कि इसे पाण्डवों ने भगवान शिव को प्रसन्न करने के लिए स्थापित किया था। इसके पीछे कथा मिलती है कि कुरुक्षेत्र में हुए नरसंहार से भोलेनाथ पाण्डवो से रुष्ट थे तभी उन्हें प्रसन्न करने के लिए ही इस मंदिर का निर्माण किया गया था। इसके अलावा यह भी मान्यता है कि माता पार्वती ने भी शिव को पाने के लिए यहीं पर तपस्या की थी।
